Shop the Look: Contemporary Casual Living Room

With fun pieces drawing inspiration from the curved silhouettes of the 1980’s, this living room collection is equal parts earthy and refined, with a stylish yet liveable “modern retro” vibe.

Retro-inspired furniture and décor is having a serious moment! From the muted, earthy palettes and cozy fabrics of the 1970’s, to the curved furniture silhouettes of the 1980’s, there are nostalgic nods to the past to be found in just about every corner of interior design.

Contemporary applications find these classic components paired with natural and bleached woods, mixed metals, and a variety of textured embellishments such as woven, fringed, and fluted elements.

The overall aesthetic is casual and approachable, with some influence borrowed from the natural and organic elements present throughout boho style, as well as softened updates to the clean lines seen in Scandinavian design.

With it’s mostly neutral palette and simple silhouettes, the Contemporary Casual style is easy to blend alongside a variety of other décor styles throughout your home. While there’s plenty of room to play with pattern and color alongside these pieces, we think they work wonderfully alongside highly textured natural finishes like grasscloth wallpaper, or applied wall finishes such as clay, plaster, or concrete.

This collection is part of a series! To see more of this style, take a look at our Contemporary Casual Bedroom and Contemporary Casual Dining Room.
